The tablet was presented with FRP (Factory Reset Protection) by Google enabled. THIS means the Android device can NOT be used unless you provide the eMail & Password of the previous user!
We have reset the FRP with our own process and believe it to be effective and permanent! However, NO GUARANTEE can be give.
This is NOT a ‘guide’ to repeat the process (be AWARE that any flashing of firmware ‘may brick’ your device (make it unusable /unrecoverable)
Basic process:
- Use Odin to flash SAMSUNG factory “combination” firmware for this model (this will ALLOW the next step)
- Create a BLANK image file for the PERSISTENT partition and flash using Heimdall
- Use Odin to flash factory image for 5.1 (it may be possible to flash directly to 7.1.1 – we did not try)
- Use Odin to flash factory image for 6.0.1 (it may be possible to flash directly to 7.1.1 – we did not try)
- Use Odin to flash factory image for 7.1.1
- Start up “NORMALLY” and follow through – BUT DO NOT create an account (MUST SKIP!!!)
- Enable Developer mode & USB debugging AND OEM UNLOCK (bootloader)
- FACTORY RESET the tablet to be able to install a NEWER operating system (see next TAB “LineageOS)
Flashing TWRP is NOT for ‘beginners’! PLEASE heed the advise on their XDA post (linked) AND the TWRP Website!
IGNORE this advise at your OWN PERIL – YOU HAVE been WARNED!!!
For the verison of LineageOS installed on your devices it is important to use the EXACT Version of TWRP which we have installed. ANY older, newer or self-compiled version “may” NOT work with the LineageOS!
TWRP offical supported devices.
You can find a compiling guide here and the
sources are at their github location
IMPORTANT: DO NOT flash ANY ‘gapps’ (google apps) AFTER the device has been booted into LineageOS (or any other custom ROM) for the first time. It is REQUIRED that ‘gaps’ be sideloaded in the SAME session of TWRP in which the custom ROM is installed!!!
- 1st you must install a CUSTOM recovery image (careful to follow guides, otherwise SAMSUNG/GOOGLE will remove your recovery…
- 2nd you may install a suitable LineageOS image for your SPECIFIC device.
- WARNING: any ‘gaps’ MUST be sideloaded in the SAME session of TWRP!!!
- Google PLAY store is NOT installed (ON PURPOSE!)
- You may find ALL software from google WITHOUT LOGIN using the installed AURORA Store instead!
- Google is ‘left out’ because it will use too much resources on an old tablet with just 1.5GB RAM
- The WiFi speed of this tablet is LIMITED! (this is a HARDWARE limitation and can not be ‘fixed’).
- Chromium web browser is installed (OLD) – we suggest you try a FireFox or Brave…
- NOTE: Before ‘factory reset’ ALWAYS remove ALL accounts!!!
- IF using factory reset, applications installed for you will be FULLY REMOVED!!!
- THIS means if you factory reset – there will be NO AURORA Store or Chromium Browser or K9-eMail
A: more privacy than Google Chrome. BUT, we suggest to use “BRAVE” for better privacy…
Q: What is K9-eMail?
A: One of the best eMail clients for Android systems (you can configure many different eMails and so much more…)
