The basic problems have been fixed now. However the site has slow loading times due to larger images and terribly slow (shared!!!) host… NO, you are reading it right – they do not have SSL. Again, their shared host appears to be selling SSL certificates rather than enabling Let’s Encrypt…
After fixing the basic problems I got 6.420s as the ‘best’ result out of 12 tests…
I created a FRESH WordPress install on one of my own servers. A VPS with “middle of the road” specifications. Seems I always get better results with VPS based on the West Coast… < 0.300s beats Amazon… Well, it is quite minimal with just 160KB…
However, MY revamped version of their site is hosted on my own server (the above “Vrgin”) and loads around 1s or better (tested at pingdom from SF with Chrome and FF). This is a a WIP and more tweaks can be expected to get a few more ms improvement…
Still some things to do and get approval from the customer for the revised edition and possible move to a faster host or VPS…
